Membership benefits

The Transnational Alliance to Combat Illicit Trade (TRACIT) is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization under US tax code 501(c)(6). Membership is open to corporations and select trade associations committed to mitigating the economic and social impacts of illicit trade. Since 2017, an elite group of companies has joined TRACIT to form a respected international business voice against illicit trade and related criminal activity.
Membership empowers you in three ways:
  • It strengthens the systems that govern, detect, and deter illicit trade, rather than reacting to individual violations.
  • It amplifies your voice through credible, evidence-based engagement that informs policymaking.
  • It supports your broader commitments to responsible, sustainable business.

Build global systems that prevent illicit trade

Illicit trade thrives on structural gaps across supply chains, regulation, and enforcement. TRACIT works upstream to close those gaps, creating leverage that makes individual enforcement and litigation efforts more effective:
  • Strategic supply chain focus. TRACIT identifies high-risk supply-chain "hotspots" and prioritizes engagement in the geographies where they are most exploited.
  • Regulatory and enforcement leverage. TRACIT promotes stronger regulations and enforcement, which help our companies gain leverage for their own efforts.
  • Collective capacity and expertise. TRACIT pools resources, data, and expertise to sustain engagement with governments and international organizations at a scale no single company can achieve alone.

Amplify your voice with evidence-based credibility

Business expertise is at the core of TRACIT's initiatives and impact. Companies contribute real-world evidence that supports our research and shape our work. Here’s why that matters:
  • Shape a business-driven agenda. Governments create policy frameworks, but business drives the economy. TRACIT ensures that policymakers understand business priorities.
  • Cross-sector reach. TRACIT operates across 12 industries affected by illicit trade, demonstrating to governments that the risks and damages of illicit trade are not confined to a single sector.
  • Credibility and global standing. TRACIT is recognized as a trusted voice for international business in the fight against illicit trade and related crimes. We use evidence-based research to engage constructively with governments.

Demonstrate your global responsibility commitments

TRACIT supports your broader sustainability and responsibility goals, helping you align with the SDGs and strengthen ESG performance.
  • Uphold UN Sustainable Development Goals. Illicit trade undermines SDGs. Fighting illicit trade is essential to contributing to these goals.
  • Strengthen ESG effectiveness. TRACIT provides a concrete way to act on ESG commitments, helping companies create ESG value across their operations.

Translating member priorities into workstreams

TRACIT structures its work across complementary workstreams that reflect the priorities members identify. Together, we identify supply chain weaknesses, monitor regional trends affecting your markets, assess sector-specific threats to your products, and highlight the social costs that shape regulatory and enforcement priorities.

Supply chain

TRACIT’s supply chain work focuses on vulnerabilities in global production and transport systems that enable illicit trade. We identify weaknesses and strengthen controls to prevent the misuse of legitimate logistics networks.

Societal costs

Illicit trade carries high social costs, including corruption and forced labor. TRACIT documents these impacts, highlights their cross-sector linkages, and demonstrates the urgency of action. Our analysis compels policymakers to grasp the wider consequences of illicit trade.

Country/Regional focus

TRACIT strategically focuses on the regions and countries prioritized by our member companies. We engage with local authorities to strengthen legislation, policies, enforcement, and cross-border cooperation where it matters most.

Special initiatives

TRACIT carries out special initiatives that create opportunities for high-impact work. Through projects like the Illicit Trade Index and the Americas Summit, we spotlight global trends and elevate the fight against illicit trade on major international platforms.
