Today the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) released a critical report bringing to light the public health dangers and the negative economic impacts caused by the explosive growth of illicit trade in alcohol. The report, “Illicit Trade in High-Risk Sectors: Illicit alcohol and implications on public health and criminal networks,” was presented to a meeting of government officials hosted by the EU Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to improve combatting IPR crime in the wine and spirits sector.

Without SHOP SAFE, American consumers are at risk from fake, illicit and stolen products available online

Picture
TRACIT endorses inclusion of both the SHOP SAFE Act and the INFORM Consumers Act in the America Competes Act. Without the SHOP SAFE provisions, American consumers are at risk from fake, illicit and stolen products available online.

The Shop Safe Act holds online marketplaces accountable for screening third-party sellers, disclosing more information about the seller to online shoppers, removing counterfeit and stolen product listings, and barring bad actors from selling on their platforms – consumer protections that have all been missing for far too long.  More...

The report shows that women, children and men of all ages and race are forced to labor in illicit sectors, where they are abused by organized criminals in their pursuit of profits. More...

The Link Between Illicit Trade and Sovereign Credit Ratings

The TRACIT report investigates whether a correlation can be established between individual countries’ creditworthiness and their vulnerability to illicit trade. The report compares the credit ratings attributed by S&P Global, Fitch Group and Moody's and the scores attributed by the Global Illicit Trade Environment Index, and finds that countries that are poorly equipped to tackle illicit trade also suffer from poor credit worthiness. More...
