Membership benefits

The Transnational Alliance to Combat Illicit Trade (TRACIT) is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization under US tax code 501(c)(6). Membership is open to corporations and select trade associations committed to mitigating the economic and social impacts of illicit trade.
Membership benefits you in three ways:
  • It strengthens your voice through evidence,
  • It contributes to effective policy and operational solutions, and
  • It supports your broader commitments to responsible, sustainable business.

Amplify your voice with evidence-based credibility

Business expertise is at the core of TRACIT's initiatives and impact. Companies contribute real-world evidence that supports our research and shape our work. Here’s why that matters:
  • Shape a business-driven agenda. Governments create policy frameworks, but business drives the economy. Through TRACIT, members can ensure that policymakers understand business priorities and utilize business know-how.
  • Cross-sector reach. TRACIT works across 12 industries affected by illicit trade. This breadth allows us to show governments that the risks and damages are not confined to a single product, sector, or company.
  • Credibility and global standing. TRACIT is recognized as a trusted voice for international business in the fight against illicit trade and related crimes. Our reputation is grounded in evidence-based research, constructive engagement with governments, and high-level collaborative events.

Shape effective policy responses & strengthen operations

Membership strengthens your ability to anticipate risks, reinforce your own enforcement efforts, and tap into a collective pool of expertise and resources that multiplies your impact.
  • Focus on supply-chain vulnerabilities. TRACIT identifies the “hotspots” criminals exploit—weak borders, governance gaps, financial systems, maritime shipping, postal and express carriers, Free Trade Zones, and e-commerce and social media channels—and develops strategies to close them.
  • Supporting enforcement. By promoting stronger governance and regulatory enforcement, TRACIT helps member companies gain leverage for their own enforcement and litigation efforts.
  • Aggregate resources and expertise. TRACIT provides a vehicle to pool funding and expertise to create a greater critical mass of resources than any single company or sector could do alone. TRACIT’s expert Secretariat provides external support to assist members with corporate initiatives and interaction with key IGOs and government agencies.

Demonstrate your global responsibility commitments

Membership supports your broader sustainability and responsibility goals—helping you align with the SDGs, strengthen CSR performance, and create long-term value for stakeholders.

  • Amplify commitments to UN Sustainable Development Goals. Illicit trade undermines food security (SDG2), consumer health (SDG3), and safe, fair work (SDG8). Progress on these goals requires tackling illicit trade, and business is essential to that effort.
  • Strengthen ESG effectiveness. Tackling illicit trade is a core element of effective ESG, given its impact on communities, markets, and the environment. TRACIT membership provides a concrete way to act on these commitments, helping companies create social, economic, and environmental value across their operations and supply chains.

Translating member priorities into workstreams

TRACIT structures its work across complementary workstreams that reflect the priorities members identify. Together, we identify supply chain weaknesses, monitor regional trends affecting your markets, assess sector-specific threats to your products, and highlight the social costs that shape regulatory and enforcement priorities.

Supply chain

TRACIT’s supply chain work focuses on vulnerabilities in global production and transport systems that enable illicit trade. We identify weaknesses and strengthen controls to prevent the misuse of legitimate logistics networks.

Societal costs

Illicit trade carries high social costs, including corruption and forced labor. TRACIT documents these impacts, highlights their cross-sector linkages, and demonstrates the urgency of action. Our analysis compels policymakers to grasp the wider consequences of illicit trade.
